Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Thanksgiving was yesterday! I woke up this morning and Jeff said something funny, “wow, your stomach grew a lot overnight!” I told him it’s just because I ate a lot on Thanksgiving! hehe… It had nothing to do with the baby’s growth! Here are some pictures from Thanksgiving Day!

Glucose Challenge!

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I had my 29 week appointment, and the most exciting part was the Glucose Challenge. I know, it’s a silly name. Basically it’s where you drink a very sugary drink within 5 minutes time, then have blood drawn exactly one hour later and they test how well your body processes the sugar. If you fail the test, you have to take a 3 hour test. The tests checks for gestational diabetes which you don’t want to have for the sake of your baby’s health. If you do have gestational diabetes, you have to go on a special diet and they probably take more precautions. That’s about all I know. I think results take about a week.

I had heard horror stories about the taste of this drink and I’m glad so many people warned me so that I was prepared. I was allowed to take the drink home with me after my 25 week appointment and I was instructed to put it in the fridge so it would be very cold when consumed. I was so nervous about drinking this sugary concoction because I usually only drink water and coffee, and I’m not used to a lot of sugar in liquid form. I was expecting the worst and that was good because I was pleasantly surprised! Now I wouldn’t say the drink was good, but when you expect the worst, “bad” can sometimes seem “ok”. I took my first drink and realized it tasted exactly like an orange Fla-vor-ice Freeze Pop. It’s not carbonated, it’s not sludgy, it just tastes exactly like an orange Fla-vor-ice! So, now you know. I’d rather have eaten it frozen, and I had to chug the last bit to finish in 5 minutes, but it really wasn’t bad at all.

Once you drink the sugary drink, you cannot have anything else. In fact, some people have to fast the whole night before taking the test, but my doctor recommended that I eat normal meals before the test and once the test starts, you can’t eat or drink anything, including water, until the blood has been drawn.

I arrived at the blood drawing lab 25 minutes early so they would definitely be ready for me at the one hour point. They took 3 vials of my blood because my office actually tests for glucose, anemia, and syphilis on the same day. The blood drawing went by without any problems and I was off to my normal doctor appointment.

The doctor said the baby’s heart beat sounded good and everything else was going according to plan. I can’t believe that I now have appointments every two weeks! Wow! She recommended a pediatrician and said I need to call and schedule a meeting with him.

That was my adventure for the day!

Ultrasound Video!

Ok, I’m finally posting the ultrasound video from 25 weeks. Jeff made this little video using the images we got from the ultrasound appointment. If you have sound, turn it up to hear the music too!

Active Baby = No Sleep for Mommy!

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Last night we went to dinner and I noticed that baby was moving around the entire time. She never stopped moving! Then we got home and I did some knitting and she continued moving. Eventually we went to bed, and she kept on moving. I thought she would get tired, but I was wrong! I was able to sleep initially but woke up after a few hours from her moving and just decided to get up so I wouldn’t wake Jeff. It felt like she was tossing and turning from one side to the other side, like she couldn’t get comfortable. As much as I wanted to sleep, it was such a cute experience that I didn’t really care. It felt like her elbows were running across my stomach every few minutes! Around 5:30am I went back to bed because I felt tired and it seemed that baby had gone to sleep. Around 6:30 I woke up with really bad stomach pains. I got back up and eventually the pains sort of went away so I went back to bed. I slept about an hour before I just decided to get up for good.

I walked Jeff to school and the whole time it felt like the baby was digging her elbow into my pelvis! Who knew a little elbow could hurt me so much! When I got home I thought a run might make the baby move into a better position. I went nice and easy, but I think I put the maternity support belt on too tight because my stomach and back were killing me. I ended up walking home…

Of course, since then baby has been a perfect angel and hasn’t moved at all. I think she is sleeping. I would like to take a nap, but there is construction outside of my apartment so that probably won’t happen. The most exciting part of today is that we are heading to Rochester in a few hours and we will be sleeping in our KING SIZE BED! YAY! I hope baby lets me get some sleep, but if she doesn’t, I know there is plenty of unpacking to do!

Hand or Foot in my Side and HUNGRY!

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Today we went to our regular jazz brunch. Baby was kicking and moving around all throughout the meal. When I was done, I sort of rubbed the right side of my belly because I’ve found that’s where she likes to hang out. I felt a hard something or other… had to be a hand or foot resting right up against my skin! It was so cute! She moved it as soon as I took my hand away so Jeff wasn’t able to feel. Just a minute later she started kicking/punching right in that same spot. Loved that feeling!

In other news, I’ve been so hungry the past few days. I can’t explain how much I’ve been eating. Just trust me on this one. Baby must be growing!

Baby Tickled Me!

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

This morning I was sitting on the couch, just relaxing after breakfast, and I felt the baby right up against my skin on the right hand side of my belly. It actually felt like she was tickling me! It was so cute! It probably only lasted maybe 5 seconds or less, but that was the best part of my pregnancy so far! It made me laugh out loud because it tickled and was really funny. :) :) :)

28 Weeks Exactly, Pictures!

Friday, November 20th, 2009

It’s Friday again and that means we reached another milestone… 28 full weeks! I’ve been a little exhausted at night because we’ve been walking a lot during the day. Today I decided to take the day off from running because I was really tired last night. I don’t think my belly has changed much this week and there’s only one new thing to report. You have to look closely, and even if you do you might miss it, but I’ve developed “the line”! The Linea Nigra which is a line that runs from the crotch area up through the belly button and to the chest is starting to develop on my stomach. It’s mostly apparent under my belly button. I told Jeff about it and he said he had already noticed it! Thanks for telling me! hahaha! Ok, here are some pictures.

Back from Washington DC, Running, and Sleep!

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

We are back from Washington DC. It was a fun trip and I only had one day where I didn’t feel well. The night before my bad day, I didn’t sleep well and woke up thinking I was going to throw up multiple times. It could have been the huge chocolate brownie with ice cream that I had too close to bedtime! I don’t do well on a stomach that is really full of sugary, heavy food before bed. That day, I think I also overdid it with too much standing because we went to a few museums. I felt really tired and sick by about 5pm. I stayed in bed with my legs propped which made my legs feel good temporarily, but as soon as I got up they felt bad again. At dinner I felt so sick I didn’t really eat much. Luckily, I slept well that night I didn’t run the next day and that helped me recover. I think the standing around in museums is the hardest part. Just walking is fine, but when I stand in one spot it seems like all the blood in my body pools in my legs and it makes my legs really sore/tired!

I’ve been having a hard time with running and having to pee. I can’t make it more than 15-20 minutes without having to stop for a restroom which can be a problem if I’m not near public restrooms or home.  Either this symptom will go away when the baby moves positions or I’m going to have to cut my runs to no more than 15-20 minutes. We’ll see!

Finally, I’ve been sleeping REALLY well lately. Besides getting up 2-5 times a night to pee, I sleep really well. Baby moves a lot during the night but I have been able to sleep right through it.  I think good sleep is characterized by how quickly I fall back asleep after waking up. My good sleep is NOTHING like good sleep before pregnancy, where I slept through the night, but I think it’s a victory when I can wake up from baby movement or a restroom break and fall back asleep quickly.

27 Weeks Exactly, Pictures!

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Here are my 27 week pictures! My belly is really looking round from the front!

Last night when I got home from a Tibetan dinner I noticed that my belly didn’t look huge, but it looked really round. Baby must be rolled up in a ball! She’s actually kicking as I type this! She’s been moving all the time lately, but I haven’t seen any actual hands or legs. I do see her from the outside, pushing my stomach, but can’t see the outline of the actual hand/leg yet.

I had a strange dizzy spell while just sitting on the couch today so I think I will lay low for a few hours. Other than that, all is well!
