WATER… need more water!

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Well, ever since my trip to the hospital, I’ve noticed that I’m drinking a lot of water. Now that I have a 32 oz water bottle I can track how much I drink a day. My friend Amanda said she drank 2 gallons a day leading up to her twins’ birth, and I thought that was a crazy amount until I realized that’s how much I’m drinking a day now! I can’t believe it! I’ve never been so thirsty in my life! Oh well, there’s nothing wrong with drinking water!

My day in Labor and Delivery!

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Well, the day started off normal enough. I got up, ate a few banana cookies (delicious!) then went out for a run with dad. We get through 41 minutes and we were just about 1/4 mile from home when I fell, smack down on my knees, palms, and landed flat on my front. Dad asked me if I was ok, if anything was broken, if I fell on the baby, if I thought I could walk. I said I didn’t want to walk, but I probably could. He helped me hobble home and I tried to remember what exactly happened. I think I tripped on some gravel pieces that were on the side of the road. I didn’t have any stomach pain, and my knees and wrists hurt really bad but my stomach was ok. I didn’t have any bleeding or cramping and I felt the baby moving but I decided to call my doctor. She told me to go to the hospital for monitoring.

I got to the hospital and they hooked me up to the monitor. I was having contractions every 6-10 minutes, but couldn’t feel them! They gave me an IV and shot me up with fluids. The contractions weren’t really calming down so they gave me some brethaline. I got very shakey almost instantly, my face got bright red and turned hot, and my heart rate went up about 15bpm. I eventually fell asleep. The nurse came in and asked if I could feel the contractions. She said they were coming every 3 minutes, and some lasted well over a minute! I felt some tightening, but nothing painful. Eventually they calmed down and after about 5 hours total I was able to go home. Whew! Baby’s movement looked good and her heart looked strong so the doctor said to rest and if I have any bleeding, cramping, or contractions to come back in. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen!

Ouch, my back and ankles!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Well, it’s 10 days until Christmas and I already know what I’m getting – a sore back and ankles! I don’t know if it’s because I’m at my parents’ house now and not sitting on the couch all day with my feet propped like usual, or if it’s just the effect of being further along in the pregnancy, but my lower back/hips ache so much sometimes that I limp walking from room to room. And now, my ankles are feeling weak, like they might snap while I’m walking. I’m a mess!

In other news, I slept better last night than I have in a long time. My usual schedule is: go to bed around 10-11pm and wake up at 2, 3, 4, 5. Get frustrated by 6 and get up for good. Stay up until 7:30 and go back to bed until whenever. Last night I slept until 2:20, peed, fell asleep quickly again, got up at 6:15, rolled over, went back to sleep until 7:30 and still felt tired so slept till 8:30 when I finally got up! It was great!

31 weeks, 2 days, Body Check!

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Last night I took the train from Rochester to Toledo, red-eye! I got a little sleep, but was curled up in a ball and pretty uncomfortable most of the time. When I got home I had mom check my body for stretch marks and varicose veins. As of today (and knock on wood) I’m clear of both! My mom is shocked! I know the worst is yet to come, but I’m happy to be free of both so far!

31 weeks, 1 day, pictures!

We have 2 months to go, as of today! Wow! I’m feeling great and baby is moving around all the time. I find myself talking to her all the time. I’m having a hard time figuring out what position she is in. I should have asked my doctor at my appointment the other day. If I had to guess I’d say she’s head down facing the front with her legs crossed. I haven’t had any rib kicking yet, so I guess I’m lucky in that way! I’m seeing the doctor every 2 weeks from now on, making everything feel really real. And, I woke up this morning and cuddled up to Jeff and thought to myself, “what is that between us”. It was baby! It was my stomach sticking out so far that it’s not comfortable to lay up against Jeff anymore. HA!

30 Weeks, 4 Days pictures!

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Every time I think I have baby figured out, she goes and doesn’t something new and surprises me. Today she decided to curl up on the left side of my belly. She ALWAYS chooses the right side so this was funny to me! Here are some pictures we took before going to eat some Burgers at Bartley’s. Jen’s baby belly 30 weeks, 4 days

Same Old Exciting Stuff

Monday, December 7th, 2009

I am thinking that nothing new really happens during weeks 28-32. I get these updates from about 10 different listserves each morning by email and I find they don’t really tell me much of anything new. Also, when I think of posting something, I think how I have nothing new to report. Sure, the baby moves hourly, and her movements are bigger and more pronounced, but that has been happening (doesn’t take the fun out of it for me though… still loving it!) Also, baby still loves hanging out in the right side of my belly. I’m sure this is different for everyone, but this is where my baby likes to live and it’s been that way for pretty much the whole pregnancy. My stomach is still expanding, but since I’ve been “showing” for awhile, it’s nothing new really. I get up about 3 times a night to pee, and it’s been that way for the last few weeks at least. So, things are kind of calm now, which I think is a good thing because life will only get crazier in the weeks to come.

This lack of new baby stories makes me feel the need to talk about things I’ve been thinking about lately and things that have happened to me. First of all, it is just about 2 months until the baby is due. Wow! I can’t believe that! I just keep imagining holding her and feeding her and dressing her in cute little outfits!

Next, I think my running has officially switching to jogging. My pace no longer deserves to be called running, but that’s ok. It is still fun for now! Some days, I can even make it 30 minutes without stopping to use the restroom (other days the stop comes around 10 minutes!) Speaking of running, on our run last night, Jeff said something funny. I don’t know how it came up, but somehow I said that people might not notice that I’m pregnant. Jeff gave a shocked laugh and was silent. A few seconds later he said, “I’m glad you are under the illusion that you don’t look pregnant, but you obviously can’t see yourself from the side.” HA! That made me laugh too! I know I look pregnant, but I was thinking that maybe from the front, oncoming runners might not know. Jeff let me know that everyone knows and it’s totally obvious. No wonder I’ve been getting so many dirty looks lately. Most people seem to think I’m crazy for wanting to run while pregnant. Jeff actually had a good point though – jogging for me is like walking for many people. You are supposed to exercise while pregnant, so why not do what I love?

At the end of the run Jeff said something that was really nice.  He said, “you know, for seven months pregnant, you are really running well”. In my mind I was thinking “I’m actually starting my 8th month in a few days” but mostly I was just really happy about his comment and feeling proud. I feel so lucky to have a supportive husband!
